Empty Nest Quest, where partners John and Mary Carpenter keep any business about themselves short and sweet, and any business about their adventures in music appreciation, world travel and fantastic food, cheerful, smart and brightly decorated with lovely snaps.
About them: “he’s a veteran journalist and travel writer; she’s a digital media expert and consultant – Together, “they hope their backgrounds will help them make a place that inspires other Empty Nesters.”
For example, their glowing review of singer/songwriter Rhiannon Gidden’s recent concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, one of the places the Carpenters call home, might inspire you to see the artist for yourself. The Hobbledehoy: Michael Stevenson is the master of ceremonies at this site which is neither clumsy nor ill-mannered. Among other things at this locale, you will find what the renowned Anthony Trollope had to say about “the true Hobbledehoy”:
“The true hobbledehoy is much alone, not being greatly given to social intercourse even with other hobbledehoys — a trait in his character which I think has hardly been sufficiently observed by the world at large.”
Methinks Stevenson is being ironic here, since the site offers miles and miles of connections. The bits about domestic politics aside, it is mostly for the tasteful Anglophile and/or lover of all things Celtic, that the Hobbledehoy claims, to “use the best and the rest”. From Movies to Wit, from Scots to Lit, the careful curator shares great reads and lovely tunes, all of it revealing an obsessive curiosity regarding the other side of the pond.
few recent articles from the world of film have caught our attention. Here’s some links. Oh, if and when you go there, stay for a while. Look into the nooks and crannies, and try to remember, you’ve got to come back out sometime, if only to go back again later, if you know what I mean.
And I hope you know what I mean because I sure know what I mean.
